When you’re trying to get your website found on Google, there’s no shortage of things you can try to do. For?example you could:

  • Register your business in online directories, including your website addressSign up to all the social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc) and start posting random comments about your business, motivational quotes, pictures of cats, etc etc
  • Get your business-owning friends to put links on their websites that point to your website, in return for a link back to their site from yours (NOT recommended because Google really doesn’t like it)
  • Pay someone who spams your inbox $100 or so for “1000 backlinks” (HUGELY not recommended, for reasons I can cover later)
  • Create some videos of yourself and your business, and post them to YouTube (great idea, with some caveats about HOW you do this)

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]And there are PLENTY more.

Because of the number of choices available, many business owners end up like the proverbial “deer in the headlights” and normally do… nothing.

Let me clear up this problem for you so you can stop?postponing this task.[/vc_column_text][vc_custom_heading text=”The #1 SEO Task to Do Right Now” font_container=”tag:h2|font_size:24px|text_align:left|color:%237a2f2f” use_theme_fonts=”yes” css=”.vc_custom_1458444261071{padding-top: 20px !important;}”][vc_column_text]At time of writing, Google is giving more priority to your onpage SEO than ever before. My peers and I are seeing websites with only a small number of backlinks, but solid?onpage SEO, outrank?their??competitors who have FAR more backlinks but?poor to moderate onpage SEO.

The great thing about optimising?the pages on your website which you want to rank, is that you can make the updates yourself in many cases. If your website is built on the super-popular WordPress platform, you can use one of the popular WordPress SEO plugins to help you get started.

The two most popular plugins without a doubt, would have to be All In One SEO, and Yoast SEO. Both have their pro’s & con’s personally thought I find myself using Yoast most?of the time (the free version?does a fantastic job).[/vc_column_text][vc_custom_heading text=”What To Check and / or Change Onpage” font_container=”tag:h2|font_size:24px|text_align:left|color:%237a2f2f” use_theme_fonts=”yes” css=”.vc_custom_1458445520981{padding-top: 20px !important;}”][vc_column_text]The most important onpage?elements?to check (for each page you are trying to rank in Google) are:

  1. Page Titles
  2. URL names (http://website.com/my-keyword-here)
  3. Meta Descriptions (your?page description which?shows up under your?website address in Google search results)
  4. H1 & H2 tags (Header 1 and Header 2 formatted text)
  5. Keyword density (how many times your?target keyword is included in your copy)
  6. Image alt & title tags (“code” that Google reads to understand what your images are about)

Each of those 6 items are?highlighted in your complimentary SEO Audit Report, and I cover them more?in this?blog post. So use both those sources to get?started, and if you have any questions about any of those points just drop me a line – [email protected] I’ll be happy to help?you.[/vc_column_text][vcex_divider color=”#7a2f2f” width=”700″ height=”5″ margin_top=”20px”][vc_custom_heading text=”NEXT: “Getting Found in Google“ Problem #2 – No Time to Learn SEO” font_container=”tag:h2|font_size:24px|text_align:left|color:%237a2f2f” use_theme_fonts=”yes” css=”.vc_custom_1458846140995{padding-top: 20px !important;}”][vc_column_text]

Now that you know the best place to start?your SEO journey, I’ll wrap it up here! In the next email I’ll cover how the “no time” trap prevents many business owners from getting found in Google, and how you can?overcome it.

Till next time…
